Dear Parents:

Here's this week's News To Know!

  1. Easton Learning Foundation: The Buzz Around Town
  2. Free Broadcast Production Studio
  3. PTA Scrapbooking Club Planning a Mom's Day Out!

Easton Learning Foundation: The Easton Learning Foundation received 5 checks totaling $3,500 this week to fund the HKMS Engineering and Innovation Lab. Thank you, parents and grandparents, for your generosity!!  We just need $24,000 more to fund the HKMS lab for 5 years.

If you haven't already done so, please consider donating to ELF directly ("ELF" PO Box 437 Easton, CT. 06612) and/or Come to the ELF Bee on May 20th and participate as a player or sponser. Or place a message to a team or an ad in the Bee program. Please email Denise Sherwood, Bee program designer at palaia@snet.net with your message/ad. Admission to the BEE is free and so are refreshments!!

Free Broadcast Production Facility:We need your help to win a free broadcast production facility for our school!

The Connecticut Public Broadcast Network Media Lab is seeking a competitive Pepsi Refresh Project grant to expand its media education by creating a pilot program of satellite Media labs for grades 6-8 with 3 Connecticut middle schools. If CPBN wins this grant, three schools will be awarded the equipment and a chosen faculty advisor will receive training. In turn, this advisor will teach introductory courses to the students instilling both television production skills and journalistic ethics.

HKMS was chosen as one of the schools to participate in the final round of the process. We are in the running to receive a free mobile broadcast production facility (a $15,000 value) which includes a Sony EX-3 HK video camera and accessories, a Dell computer with dual monitors and the Adobe CS 4 Production Premium suite software, which include the motion, design, and edit programs: After Effects, Flash, Photshop, Illustrator, and Premier Pro.

Paul Pfeffer (Manager of Online Content at the CPBN, Hartford) came to HKMS this past Tuesday to videotape a segment to be posted on www.refresheverything.com Students and faculty were filmed and enthusiastically demonstrated their eagerness to win the free lab!!

Now, here is where you come in! Starting tomorrow, May 1,  we need you to go to www.refresheverything.com and search using the key words "CPBN Media Lab" grant. We need you to vote for this grant. If CPBN wins, we have a chance of winning too!! Please use all of your social connections to spread the word about voting for us. You can vote every day (as many times as you want) until the end of May! So, get up, grab a cup of coffee and vote! Your children will thank you!

PTA Scrapbooking Club: Come to a Mom's Night Out! In the tradition of the latter-day quilting bees, the PTA Scrapbook Club invites you to a MNO Scrapbook on Sunday, May 2 from 5 -11  p.m. at the Easton Library Community room.
