October 27, 2009
Dear Parents:
Here’s some news to know:
1. H1N1 Update: Please be aware that a fever does not always accompany this strain of flu. If your child is not feeling well, please keep them home.
2. PTA Sponsored Candidate Debate: Courtesy of the PTA, beginning tonight at 7:00 p.m., candidates for the Easton Board of Finance as well as candidates for the Region 9 Board of Education will be debating here at HKMS in the Media Center.
3. Project Lead the Way Update: As you may recall from Open House, we are hoping to launch Project Lead the Way this coming September 2010. The launch would provide HKMS students with inquiry based learning projects that integrate math, engineering, science and technology.
This initiative is being fully funded through the Easton Learning Foundation.
To date, ELF has received checks totaling $26,000!! Thank you for your generosity. While $26,000 is a large amount of money, $115,000 is needed to fully implement the program. If you are able to contribute, please contact Bernadette Waterman or Anne Leibell.
4. Red Ribbon Week: Red Ribbon week serves as a vehicle for communities and individuals to take a stand for the hopes and dreams of children through a commitment to drug prevention and education. Watch this week as Mrs. Thomas leads each child as they plant a red tulip bulb symbolizing their personal commitment to live drug-free.
5. Bullying Presentation: Please come at 7:00 p.m. to our Media Center on Thursday, October 29, 2009 to learn more about bullying. Mrs. Kaplan will be reviewing the new State law, Easton Board of Education policy on bullying, results of our 2009 School Climate Survey, support services available at HKMS and intervention strategies.
6. Your Money at Work: Please continue to check the HKMS web site to learn about all our wonderful extra-curricular activities. Encourage your child to make the most of their middle school experience by being a participant in one or more of these activities. The latest news reports that ninety-two 7th and 8th graders have been cast in our 2010 school play!!!! Wow!
7. Need a re-take? Retakes are this Friday, October 30th. Students should bring back their original pictures when they sit for the retake.
8. Left-over Halloween Candy? Please send any leftovers to Carol Weinshel as she will be mailing surprise packages to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
All the best,
Joan Parker |
